Search Miami-Dade County Inmates

The Miami-Dade County jail system is run by the Corrections and Rehabilitation Department, one of the largest jail operations in the country. To search for Miami-Dade County inmates, the department keeps an online In-Custody Search that pulls from the live booking system. The roster shows who is held right now, the charges, the bond, and the booking details. It does not cover people held in state prison or federal custody. Family and friends use the same tools to set up visits, send mail, add phone money, and order commissary. Custody records change fast, so the roster is the best real-time source.

Miami-Dade County Inmate Search

The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR) runs the official Inmate In-Custody Search. MDCR operates the eighth-largest jail system in the country and the largest in Florida, with care, custody, and control of roughly 4,000 to 4,800 people on a given day. The roster pulls from the live booking system, so it reflects who is held right now across the county's detention facilities. Director Sherea Green leads the department from its Doral headquarters.

The roster has limits. It shows people in county jail awaiting trial or serving sentences of 364 days or less. It does not show people in Florida state prison or in federal custody. The county got an elected Sheriff's Office back on January 7, 2025, when the former Miami-Dade Police Department became a Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, the county's first female sheriff. Law-enforcement work sits with the Sheriff while jail operations stay with MDCR.

That page is part of the same county service hub that links the in-custody search, visitation, deposits, and commissary.

How to Use the Miami-Dade Jail Roster

The search is built around a name lookup. The county says to enter the last name followed by the first initial or first name. Broad searches return long lists, so adding a first name narrows the results. If no result comes back, the person may have been released, transferred, or never booked into county jail.

  1. Open the MDCR Inmate In-Custody Search on the county website.
  2. Enter the inmate's last name, then add the first initial or first name.
  3. Run the search and scan the result list for a match.
  4. Open the matching record to view charges, bond, jail number, and booking details.
  5. Call inmate information at 786-263-7000 if you need bond or release status that is not shown.

Note: A booking can take time to appear, and a posted bond does not mean immediate release, so a person may still show as in custody for several hours.

Inmate Search Fields

The in-custody search is a name-based tool, and the result record carries the rest of the data. The table lists the search input and the fields the official service page returns.

Booking and First Custody Steps

After an arrest, MDCR receives and books the person into custody. Booking includes an inventory and storage of personal property. Once booked, the person's charges and basic data can be checked through the inmate search. Bondable charges can be bonded at any time, and the county says to call inmate information at 786-263-7000 for the bond amount.

Release can come through bond, pretrial release, or a court hearing. Even after bond is posted or charges are resolved in court, the actual release can take several hours. Completed releases happen at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center near the Inmate Release Area signage. The released inmates page covers discharge and property pickup in detail.

MDCR also provides medical and mental health care to standards of professional care, and it runs reentry, boot camp, and monitored release programs. The Reentry Services Bureau offers counseling, case management, and community support. PREA zero-tolerance reports can go to staff, the Security and Internal Affairs Bureau at 786-263-6500, or the See Something, Say Something line at 786-263-6599.

Visitation and Phone Contact

MDCR offers remote video visitation through Global Tel*Link (GTL). Friends and family must be on the inmate's approved visitation list, register and create a GTL account, and allow up to 24 hours for processing before scheduling. Attorneys and professional visitors complete a separate remote video visitation application and also register with GTL. The inmate visitation line is 786-263-4119.

Inmates cannot receive phone calls. Friends and family set up a prepaid collect calling service through AdvancePay, which allows deposits by website, app, or phone, with low-balance alerts and auto-reload. The kiosk hours below double as money-deposit windows at each facility.

How to Send Inmate Mail

MDCR uses a Digital Mail Center. Every letter must show the inmate's full name, booking or jail number, and the agency name, sent to the central mail address. The sender's full first and last name and return address must appear on both the envelope and the letter.

Money Deposits and Commissary
